PCV Valve Replacement
Written By: Harry Stone
I know that something as mundane as changing the PCV valve
can be a problem for those of us with little or no knowledge of mechanics. I
documented my PCV valve replacement for those who need a little guidance.
First, remove the Injector sight shield by removing the Oil
fill tube and the nut on top.

Then, at least on the 97 and 98, I remove the vacuum line
that runs across the supercharger for a bit extra room.

Remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the cover on the PCV
valve. Be careful, as it has a large spring under it. I recommend you hold your
finger on it as you loosen the bolts. On my car, the cover was stuck, so with
the bolts loose but not removed, I used a screwdriver to pry up slightly on the
edge of the cover. You can see in this picture how the vacuum line interferes.

Remove the spring and you will see the valve tucked down
inside the hole.

Use a needle nose pliers to remove the valve. There is an O
ring down inside the hole, mine didn’t come up with the valve, but it could.
Here is everything associated with the valve.

If the O ring came out, install it on the new valve and
insert into the cavity in the supercharger. A bit of oil on the O ring will
facilitate installation.

Put the spring in, either end first.
Install the cover and tighten the bolts. There is no torque
value listed in Helms, but I torqued mine to 18 lb/ft. Reinstall the vacuum
line, the Injector sight shield, nut and oil filler tube and you’re done.
