This is a good read, these help one understand what back pressure is before they use the term incorrectly!

Good kills. Any 4x4 truck worth a crap can lauch quite well out of the hole and give you a surprise. :) SHO Taurus, as said, TT V6 with AWD. Moves out pretty good, although could go on a diet.

Also, be very weary of "gentlemen" driving full size trucks aggressively. I had a tangle with two Tundras on the local interestate here a few weeks back. What started out as a mistake on my behalf of trying to change lanes, turned into one of them attempting to run my Riv right off the road. He literally swerved 3/4 into my lane and out of some divine intervention, I had pinned my car against the line on the other side. I called the local authorities and got away from them as soon as I could. It was pretty ugly for about 20 minutes though as they both were jockeying for position next to my car and no doubt taunting me. I ignored them and had to laugh because it's not like you can even see me with the 20% window tint. Out of all the full size owners, the douche level seems to be:

Tundra>Ram>Titan>Silverado/Sierra>F-150

Yeah, I was using it wrong. I guess what I meant was that not all cars benefit from running open headers.

It's a cutout on the exhaust, usually on the downpipe or before the mufflers. It allows the exhaust to exit sooner in the exhaust system. Benefits performance in turbocharged cars.

Search YouTube for some examples

Freeing up the exhaust system by upgrading to a dual exhaust pipe setup with better-flowing mufflers is a step in the right direction, but running open headers eliminates exhaust backpressure and delivers more power and better quarter-mile times. Even though running open headers at the dragstrip is cool, crawling under the car to drop the exhaust pipes is a real hassle.

This is why they have electric cut outs. I have a test pipe that runs off the DP and in place of the cat with a cut out and the electric cut out connected on to that. works great.

Exactly my set up. I can hit the button beside the shifter and open and close the cutout in a few seconds. The difference (I'm sure partially because beyond my down pipe the exhaust is crap and has some crappy dodge dakota muffler) between open and closed is just pure silly. Kevin at cartuning says he's seen upwards of 80hp difference, particularly on single regal exhausts. I have no trouble believing that.

But I'm curious, why does it benefit only turbocharged cars? I would have thought boost is boost?

The car has to be able to breath, with the cut out open it is free flowing. With it closed it chokes it down especially with crappy exhaust.

Several years ago I had Flowmasters on my GN. On the dyno with the cutout open there was 40 more hp, I went from 361hp to 401hp. The chambered mufflers were just to much restriction.

I now have Hooker mufflers that are straight through. This is why you never use chambered muffs on a turbo car. Leave them for the NA cars that need more back pressure.

^^ Well, any forced induction car. Chambered mufflers are just silly unless you need the back pressure.

A good friend of mine had a similar experience with a truck on the north side of Indianapolis. He got to payback the owner of the truck. Remember the Sobe drinks? The bottles are about a pound and nearly indestructible. That hit the guys hood. lol. It still didn't break but destroyed his hood I guess. He had done the same as you and called the police before it got to that point and when they caught up with them the guy in the truck tried to go after my friend on the exit ramp so the cop basically said you should be getting on your way and chalk this up to lesson learned you moron and my friend never heard a peep about the damage to the truck. It probably helped as well that other motorists had called 911 during the time an officer was dispatched so my friend sort of had witnesses though none stopped of course.

IME the Silverado crowd has been the worst, usually some hillbilly though when there's any sort of trouble.
