ive been looking at other regals down south and there in excellent condition. most of the ones in the michigan area are just rusted right out. i dont get it. do they really rust that bad from the salt on the roads and crap or is it that people just dont take them to the car wash enough?

im really thinking about selling my GS and picking one up in flordia or somewhere and it get undercoated.

Yes, salt and water will speed up corrosion significantly. As far as not being washed enough. You can only go so many times. there are some places around here that sell unlimited monthly car wash packages, but it's like 40/month.

Here is some more info. The basics are that salt + water + metal = battery. Essentially. This article will go into more details about the chemical and physiological changes that take place, but suffice it to say that salt is not a cars best friend. But, it does a great job of lowing the freezing temperature of water and it's much easier to clean up than sand or other substances.

From what I've seen the rockets and rear strut towers.

Rear strut towers, rear fenders in general (especially if you have paint peel off), pinch welds on rocker panels and beyond.

Luckily, my car came with an undercoating to prevent this.

Rear wheel wells, firewall on the passenger side of the car... gas tank, body press and the rockers are the worst

So far the bottom of the support feels sturdy, probably not for long though. I plan on replacing mine, the part is about $100. Just gotta figure out whats involved in replacing it.

I'd be careful buying a car form Florida. Salt water is bad.

Work involved in replacing radiator support? It's spot-welded in, to the frame rails and the upper radiator support where the dogbones bolt up.

So that upper part is separate? Fenders have to come off? Maybe I should start my own thread.

All I plan to do is cut the whole bottom part off then weld on a new or used good bottom section. Easier then tring to fit the new one and lineing it up.
