Got on the highway after work today and something just didnt feel right, sure enough converter wasnt locking up properly. Still have 4th gear, just no lockup. No signs of any problem before this and car still shifts great, drives great, etc. Its a 98 GS, any help with possible solutions are appreciated.

Was it cold outside? I tend to have a problem with mine until it gets warm.

solenoid could be broken and if your car reached operating temp, your trans fluid also has to reach its operating temp before it allows lock up.

No, I know it takes a bit until the car gets into closed loop for the converter to lock, this happened 35 miles on the highway all the way home and again when I went out tonight. However, the Service Engine Light came on tonight. Going to get it scanned tomorrow morning, hopefully its the TPS, Ive heard that can cause issues with lockup. I know its a long shot, but maybe Ill get lucky.

Got it scanned and its the TCC, guess it needs a solenoid. Cant really take the side cover off in my driveway this time of year, Ill have to find a decent local shop.
Will it hurt to drive the car without lockup for a little while until I get it fixed?

Transmission fluid temps might go up a tad... So I wouldn't beat on it any more.
