I'm a born and bred Hoosier. I grew up in an entire family of racers. Even my Mother and Grandmother.
My father raced modifieds in the late 40's, early 50's. I grew up in family owned business', my first job at my dad's car lot as a "lot boy", and learned to drive about age 9. Man, the cars in those days, especially on the used lot... WOW. I fell in love with the Buick GS and the Daytona and Superbird.
My first S/C project was back in my SCCA days, '89 Thunderbird S/C. Did all I could afford to it, but in those days, parts were hugely expensive. After several thousand dollars (no suspension work at all) I got it into the low 14's, which was about as fast as either of my 2 '69 GTO's.
My first being a 1 of 5 color combo Campaign Gold w/White drop top, factory A/C and glass rear window, Ram Air III motor that I tweaked and ran as good as a stock Ram Air IV.
My second being a previously "body off restore", and was featured on the cover of Car Craft in the final year of their show in Indy. It sported a huge blower, wheelie bars and all. Mostly show. I bought it a couple years later after my buddy returned to almost all stock. It was one of 25 being fitted w/ a turbo 400 trans, but had been altered to a 4 speed. The stock Ram Air IV was bored and stroked, was about 430 cu. in. but all stock top end including original aluminum intake sporting the firing order.
In all I've owned well over 35 cars in my driving years. I had a '92 Cutlass Supreme, it was passed down eventually to my son, who sadly was murdered in 2004. The car was planned for a Vortec Turbo "Cyclone/Typhoon engine and all wheel drive mod, but a few years after he died, I just had to sell her.
My "bucket list" item of building another S/C car was fulfilled (at least the beginning) in late 2014 when I lucked into a 2000 Regal GSE, 1 owner, totally unmolested and in good condition for almost 15 years.
I chose the Buick over all others as the sleeper look, but yet, I feel it has a very "sport luxury" look when done right. Then, I found RegalGS.org...........
I'm still in the beginning stages, but god and work willing will have a mild 12 second daily driver when all said and done. The overall plan is to have it as well, a road course prep car. It may not be as competitive as a few newer sedans, but I'm sure I'll give a few a surprise.
Vanity plate shall read "GRCY GTR", and hopeto have enough cars behind me at the right time to read it.
The story will continue and photos from day 1 (purchase) through all mods will be posted as they come, at some point. As well, I hope to get a few ET slips of before major mods and after to post as well.
