Yikes, well hope you guys get that resolved, so it stays active enough to remain viable.

@  WildGS : (30 April 2021 - 07:59 PM)

the sign in process is broke because the captcha is non-functional. That is why no new members.

@  dezldave961 : (28 April 2021 - 11:54 PM)

Somewhat true, but I'm not going to get too real about the demographics of Regal owners past & present. It'd be out of place on a Regal forum, and make people cross-eyed coming from a Regal owner.

@  Marchi1 : (28 April 2021 - 06:34 PM)

we are also hitting another round of buyers...and the group is again the young crowd and realizing that the older Regal is a bargin and normally better maintained than the GP of the saemarea.

Hey, that's where I buy my top-of-the-line Spectre intake parts for my hotrod! (pre-turbo)

I'm here at Advance Auto

@  dezldave961 : (24 April 2021 - 02:22 PM)

We're now in a preservation community that some may discover, but it's been spread thin and the traffic has shifted away from the initial sharing styles (Tim/Zoom discuss this on ZZP podcasts, when those 4cyl goobers let them talk).

@  dezldave961 : (24 April 2021 - 02:20 PM)

The vehicles themselves dictate the demographic and activity level based on their following. GTP's drew the majority of the L67 crowd, including myself, and current 4/6/8cyl offerings of the last 15yrs are where 99% of our former peers and newcomers have shifted to.

@  Marchi1 : (21 April 2021 - 02:25 AM)

There are a few who come here for the info.....

@  dezldave961 : (19 April 2021 - 10:57 PM)

Ya, 3800/Wbody forums have cleared out. I hear there's some FB groups, but I'm ont on there and it sounds similar to the newbie-centric folks I see the last 1-2yrs on 3800pro & GPF.

@  glendayle : (18 April 2021 - 03:59 AM)

Man this thing used to be hoppin' on the daily. How times have chagned.

@  glendayle : (18 April 2021 - 03:59 AM)

LOL, someone chatted?!

@  dezldave961 : (17 April 2021 - 02:04 PM)

Just keeping the candle lit, as I mentioned on my only remaining local ClubGP chapter of the 3-4 I was very active on in my 20's

@  Marchi1 : (15 April 2021 - 07:00 PM)

nope...just us old timers

@  WildGS : (15 April 2021 - 03:56 AM)

are people still here?

@  dezldave961 : (12 April 2021 - 09:46 PM)

Hey, chuggin' along. Just finished a big overhaul on my turbo build after 12yrs.

@  Nateteo : (12 April 2021 - 05:56 PM)

literally, the last time I logged in was 3 years ago hows everybody doing

@  dezldave961 : (12 April 2021 - 04:43 PM)

Ya, they do open bracket at GS Nationals. I may go if I'm free, just to attend, even if there's no cage, yet.

@  Marchi1 : (12 April 2021 - 01:32 PM)

I am taking the SC car.I am sure it is a big event as it is in Bowling Green, KY so yeah will need to be fully copliant, but I think there is a bracket class. God I hope so

@  dezldave961 : (08 April 2021 - 01:50 PM)

*S&W Racecars cage for 95-99 Monte... I'd actually fit the xTSM class, aside from not being a RWD, if I swapped the Air-Air I/C back in. Probably wouldn't be competitive just yet, but I'd like to see them squirm.

While I've always been curious what was done to this transmission to warrant the "600HP" claim, I've never been curious ENOUGH, but I may be about to find out.  The transmission temps, lockup and shifts are all normal, except when the PCM is commanding 4th, it's still in 3rd.  Was working fine up until Monday.  So are there any other electronic/external things to check before tearing it apart to replace the 4th clutch hub?  If either shift solenoid was bad (or disconnected) I would lose another gear as well.  Oddly, there are no trouble codes for input/output speed mismatch.  I'll have to look through the .bin to see if some codes were disabled, maybe to avoid a DTC from the higher stall torque converter.

BTW, 3000RPM on the freeway is only like 24MPG.

Ironically, I've been thinking of changing the shift settings to downshift into 3rd more easily.  Just because the car has plenty of torque to pull hills in 4th gear locked up doesn't mean it's good for the transmission.  Of course it was probably already too late.  It's conceivable somebody built the transmission with drag racing in mind and didn't worry about this part that tends to fail from years of highway driving.

Here's my old thread on CGP when I did my first 4T65E.  Ran into some haters.  http://www.clubgp.co...m.asp?m=4565090

Decided to drop the Tranny in car today and if anything didn't point to just stripped 4th clutch hub, I would pull the whole Tranny and go through everything. Sure enough:

Woah. So you had 2 trans since then ? One you rebuilt and this one you bought "built"?

I think the date code on the shaft says 1999. I think the 03/04 are the "tougher" ones

No, this is the transmission that came in this car.  It may be the original.  The extra one came with a motor and I sold it without ever opening it.  The one in my rebuild thread is from my old GTP, not this car.  The 4th clutch hub with splines that shows up in some of the pictures is from my old minivan (did a mild rebuild on that one before I sold it, but it really only needed PCS).  I don't want to run that one because it came from a 2001.  I think the extra chains I have are from the GTP as well.  I'm disappointed to find dual chains in this trans, but not wanting to pay the 7/8".  If I break the chains I'll either upgrade then or get rid of the car.

I'm now waiting for chains, 4th clutch hub and channel plate gaskets to come in the mail.

Anybody know what the numbers etched on the chains mean?  The old chains say K89T32 and the new ones MI21K15  or something like that.

Since the parts came yesterday I put the transmission back together and put the car back together yesterday, but only had 1 gallon ATF.  Added more fluid today and found #1 plug wire had the end ripped off.  Maybe it was caught on something when I lowered the drivetrain?  Kept driving, checking and adding fluid until it had taken 2.5 gallons, so I got a pretty good fluid exchange.  It's working fine, so now I just have to drive it and see if any junk gets caught somewhere.  The fluid was always pink before, but was pretty dark when I drained it.  It didn't seem burnt at all - I think it's just all the spline content.  The pan was not sparkly, but the inside of the filter sure was.  The only clutch I got to look at was 4th and it was in nice shape with some of the paint still across the frictions.

Been driving it 5 days and everything is working great.  No signs of leaks, either.  I've started tuning shift points now to avoid the loads in 4th gear, but also trying to reduce how often it will shift.  It's probably the shifting in/out of 4th that kills the splines more than building boost lugging up a hill.  Granted, the original hub lasted 17 years and the new one is hardened, so it probably won't be an issue.

That is good news for sure.  Keep fingers crossed that it will hold.  Surely the hardened 4th will make a difference.
